Care guide

Lace, mesh and satin last longest with a little care. Always follow the care label on your piece first. The advice below is the general care we give for our lace and satin pieces, and it matches the care instructions on their product pages.

Washing lace, mesh and satin

  • Hand wash in cold water, separately from other colours.
  • Fasten hooks and clasps before washing, so they do not catch the lace or mesh.
  • Use a mild detergent and do not bleach.
  • Press the water out gently in a towel. Do not wring or twist.

Drying

  • Do not tumble dry.
  • Dry flat, away from direct sun and heat, unless the label says to hang the piece.
  • Reshape cups, frills and hems while the piece is still damp.

Ironing

Do not iron lace or embroidery. If a satin piece needs smoothing, check its label first.

Stockings and suspender belts

  • Gather the stocking down to the toe before putting it on, and ease it up with your fingertips rather than your nails.
  • Remove rings and bracelets that could catch the knit.
  • Close the suspender clips before washing.

Storing

Keep pieces folded in a drawer, or on a padded hanger for robes and slips. Do not hang lace by its straps, which stretches them over time. Boxes and accessories: wipe with a dry cloth and keep away from damp.
